Strip of colored bobbin lace with a twisting ribbon forming a symmetrical pattern

Strip of colored bobbin lace: Abruzzo lace. A strongly twisting ribbon in linen stitch forms symmetrical motifs, which together form a symmetrical pattern. The symmetrical pattern repeats. The repetition in a pattern is called a repeat. In one repeat some motifs are colored brown: the centrally placed rosette flower and two pairs of diagonally hanging leaves. In the next repeat these motifs are colored dark blue. The remaining motifs are natural colored. The lace was presumably made in one go as the motifs are partly hooked with a natural colored and partly with a colored thread. The top of the strip is finished straight. The scalloped edge along the bottom results from the pattern and is finished with picots. The strongly twisting ribbon creates loops along the wide curved scallops.
