About this work

Strip of natural-coloured bobbin lace, Cluny lace. The repeating pattern consists of an openwork square, in which alternately a star or a flower with eight points or eight petals stands. Under the vertical sides of each square hangs a triangle. The successive triangles form a scalloped edge, which is finished with drop-shaped lobes made with picoted braids. The motifs and lines in the pattern are largely made in shape stitch, with two, three or seven ribs. Various connections are made with picoted braids. The circular flower heart is made in linen stitch and in the center of the star a decorative ground is applied, a twisted cross stitch ground. The upper side of the strip is finished straight.
