Strip of bobbin lace with ribbons forming a symmetrical pattern from above

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace, Russian lace. The strip shows part of a symmetrical pattern, a piece of the pattern along the lower side is missing. The pattern is formed by two ribbons that run towards each other along the upper side of the strip. At the point where the two ribbons meet, they make a large S-shaped curve in opposite directions, then wind towards each other again along the lower side. The ribbon is made in close-worked linen stitch, with openwork edges and the S-shaped curve is made in net stitch. Relief contours are formed by a plait. In the part of the ribbon made in linen stitch, this plait runs over the middle. In the part of the ribbon made in net stitch, the plait splits and runs along the outer edges of the ribbon. The pattern is held in shape by an ornamental ground of four-pointed stars made with plaits and by a diamond-shaped mesh ground. In the center stands a flower with eight petals, made in shaped stitch. The upper side is finished straight.
