Strip of bobbin lace with ornamental bands and S-shaped tendrils with oval knobs

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace, old Flemish lace. The seemingly chaotic, repeating pattern consists of a series of very narrow S-shaped vines with small oval knobs attached to them. Decorative bands, partly forming spirals, run in curves around the vines. The motifs are connected by a braided ground. The very sparingly applied solid work is made in net stitch and linen stitch, with the openwork edges approximately as wide as the solid work with which the vines are made. One type of decorative ground is applied in the spirals and in the decorative bands rows of leaves are made in shape stitch. The top side of the strip is finished straight with a separately bobbin-edged band. The bottom side is finished straight with picots.
