Rear-loading flintlock pistol

Flintlock pistol or cavalry pistol; part of a pair. The lock is chased and engraved with foliage and a bird and bears a signature. The barrel can be partially unscrewed and is engraved with foliage and the inscription Maestricht and marked at the bottom with the letters CMLI; the muzzle has the shape of a tulip like a cannon and has a collar. The butt cap is fitted with gilded copper, the rest of iron and consists of a forked trigger guard with three iron studs and an oval plate with a laurelled head on the trigger guard, and a butt cap with a gilded copper cap that gives a pierced appearance.
