Rear-loading flintlock pistol

The lock is engraved with foliage; the lockplate is of brass and bears a signature; the flint is chased in relief. The barrel is engraved with leafy vines and has a ring in four places; the front part can be unscrewed at the rim after the second ring and is rifled with 7 grooves; the muzzle is tulip-shaped like a cannon. The half fore-end is carved in relief with, among other things, an acanthus leaf behind the barrel. The cast, brass furniture with chased relief decoration is gilded and includes, among other things, a pierced screw plate with foliage and band work around two griffins on either side of a shield with a man's bust on it, a crowned thumb plate with the portrait of a man in a toga framed by pierced foliage and a mask at the bottom, and a butt cap with a seated Classical figure on each side and foliage, and a grotesque mask at the bottom framed by acanthus leaves; no provision for a ramrod.
