Heart-catcher

Heart-taker or hunting sword. The cast yellow copper hilt is silvered and entirely chased in relief decoration as a Classical warrior on a rearing horse, the helmeted head of the warrior with a turban-like plume forming the pommel; the knuckle guard has a thickening in the middle on which a female nude is depicted on one side and a bearded male nude on the other; on the crossguard stands a trophy of arms; the hanging pommel is decorated with a Classical warrior on a trophy of arms flanked by curling acanthus leaves. The double-edged blade has an oval cross-section and is provided with a short groove, etched with the name and address of the sword maker.
