About this work
Dress sword; reminiscent of swords of customs inspectors from the French period. Silver hilt with counter-guard from one piece; cast, chased, and partially pierced; decoration consists of foliate work, sunken circles, and bands of nail heads; the shaft of the knuckle bow, the quillon, and finger guards partially folded; the wooden grip is spirally wrapped and fitted with silver grip rings at the bottom and top; stamped at the bottom of the counter-guard with The Hague city mark. The blade has a hollow-d triangular cross-section and is etched with trellis work, partially in panels, and a radiant sun.
