About this work
Regimental sword for an officer. The cast brass hilt is chased in relief with military trophies and rococo scrollwork against a granular background; the wooden grip is wrapped with twisted copper wire and has braided grip rings of finer material at the top and bottom. The double-edged blade has a hexagonal cross-section and is etched with the coat of arms of the House of Orange within a panel with braiding above and below, and a panel with vivat P:V:O under a fruit garland and above a stylized festoon; below the coat of arms is the address of the sword graver.
