About this work

Box covered in dark red leather, to be closed with 2 locks, with the insignia of the Grand Cross of the Order of the Star of Africa, Republic of Liberia, established in 1920, awarded to Prime Minister W. Drees. The insignia consist of a breast badge on a sash and a star. The two-sided breast badge consists of a nine-pointed, white-enamelled golden star, between which are nine golden points of rays upon which nine small five-pointed blue stars; in the centre a golden medallion with interlaced letters R L, below 1920, with motto in golden letters on a light blue ground 'The love of liberty brought us here'. The reverse has as medallion in gold a figure in profile facing right with hands stretched to heaven, with the motto on a deep red ground 'Light in darkness'. The breast badge is connected with an eye to a golden wreath of leaves, which is fixed with a drago eye to a light blue sash with a red band in the middle. The star is identical to the reverse of the breast badge.
