Franse ridderorde (Legion d'Honneur), ontvangen door Willem Drees

Box covered in red leather, with the letters 'R.F.' on the outside of the lid, containing the insignia of the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour, Republic of France, awarded to Prime Minister W. Drees. The Legion of Honour was established in 1802 by Napoleon. The insignia consist of the badge with sash and star. The badge is a five-armed white-enamelled star in gold, with a wreath of oak and laurel leaves between the arms. The medallion in the centre shows a female head in profile facing right (symbol of the French Republic) with the motto 'Republique Francaise' in golden letters on a blue background; the reverse shows two crossed French flags on a golden ground with the motto 'Honneur et Patrie' in golden letters on a blue ground. The badge is worn on an oak and laurel wreath and hangs as a whole on a red sash.
