18-cm Palliser Shell in a Wooden Box

About this work
A half pointed 18 cm shell, painted red, in a wooden box. The shell is 42 cm long and has a caliber of 176 mm. It is split lengthwise, the nose is still intact. The shell has two rings of holes for lugs, which are not attached, for a rifled barrel with three rifling lands and is hollow; in the base a bush of softer metal is cast with a fuse hole. Under the nose, two shallow holes are provided for the fuse mechanism. In the wall, two large, tapering holes are located, through which the shell was made to burst.
