About this work

Model of a capstan in a wooden frame representing two decks. The capstan has a double head, each for twelve windlasses, and has two pawls in the heel to prevent backsliding. The iron king extends down to a track on the lower deck. This capstan has two speeds, achieved by using one or the other head; the upper head must be turned in the opposite direction to achieve the lower speed. The gear mechanism with pawls is fitted in the heel of the capstan. Scale 1:10 (estimate).
