Model of a Capstan with a Winch

Model of a capstan in a wooden frame with two levels. It is a spindle for eight windlasses with a winch in the metal head and four pawls in the foot against backsliding. The drum is operated either with the windlasses or with the winches. The lower half of the head, in which the holes for the windlasses and the winch are arranged, is attached to the drum; inside there is one toothed rim for the two handles with gears, which together form the winch. The handles can be disengaged by means of wedges. The upper half of the head is attached to the immovable square king, which is fixed in a track on the lower deck. The drum has six clamps. This spindle is a combination of a winch spindle and a spindle with an iron head. Scale 1:10 (estimate).
