Gunlock (Percussion)

Percussion lock with brass housing and iron mechanism, hammer, mounting bolt, and ring around the touchhole. It must be mounted lengthwise on the right side of the lock elevation, for which it has a vertical mounting bolt and a notch at the bottom. The hammer is pulled down with a chain, which runs forward through an eye, while a notch on the left side of the lock pushes it to the left; once down, the hammer is pushed back to the right by a spring on the other side of the housing; this is to prevent the hammer from being forcibly pushed back by the flame from the touchhole when fired. The hammer lands in an iron ring surrounding the touchhole.
