About this work

Headgear of coarse fabric. Loose black leather base, in which is pasted a label with text: Willem Pauwels and son, hat manufacturers, Westeinde B no 317 in The Hague. Almost loose black leather edge and flap, at the back of the edge a leather strap with a yellow metal buckle. On each side of the body, a hole. Front of the body: yellow metal jack plate in the shape of a half sun. In the middle of this, a circle with a bare sword and a pen (?). On a ribbon with a beaded edge the text: 'Academia Groningana'.
