About this work

Sword with fire-gilded ornate copper hilt, consisting of: pommel, knuckle, grip with two mother-of-pearl plates. Half-quillon with pommel. Two guard plates, one large. On one guard plate: W with a crown surrounded by a laurel wreath and trophy. Six-pointed partially blued iron blade with fire-gilded etched trophies and floral/vegetative decorations. On the ricasso the initials S.V.J., reverse side: à Solingen.
