Sculptural group with an allegory of Justice on the west side of the Burgerzaal in the Town Hall on the Dam in Amsterdam, above the entrance to the Schepenzaal. In the center, seated on a throne, is Justitia, the personification of Justice, holding a sword in one hand and a scale in the other. She tramples King Midas, as a personification of Greed, and Invidia, the personification of Envy and Jealousy: Justice triumphs over Greed and Envy/Jealousy. To the left of Justitia, the personification of Punishment with various instruments of punishment, including a knee-crusher for her own knee. To the right of Justitia, Death with an empty hourglass and a scythe. In the upper left, two harpies; in the upper right, two putti with thunderbolts and a rudder. Numbered in the lower right: XLII.
