About this work
David steals the spear and water jug of King Saul, while the king and his subjects lie asleep in a camp. In the background David shows the spear and the jug to Saul to demonstrate that he could have killed Saul but spared his life. Below the image a reference in Latin to the Biblical text in 1 Sam. 26.
