The Power of Peace, 1577

Allegory on the peace concluded with the Eternal Edict of 1577. Prudence (Prudentia) forges swords into plowshares in an oven. She is assisted by Reason (Ratio). On the chimney, the coat of arms of Don Juan. Father Time forges agricultural tools from weapons and armor. Violence (Violentia) is chained to the anvil and forced to help stoke the oven. On the right background, the end of the war is depicted. On the left background, fields are being cultivated, referring to the rebuilding of the country. From heaven, Peace (Pax) and Justice (Justitia) look on. Between them, the tetragram as a symbol of God the Father.
