About this work
When the nymph Daphne was pursued by Apollo, who had fallen in love with her, she begged her father Peneus for help. He ensured that his daughter escaped her pursuer by turning her into a laurel tree. Visible is the moment when Daphne's arms turn into leafy branches, while Apollo just wants to grab her. In the background, Amor strikes Apollo with one of his arrows at the dead body of Python. In the lower margin, a four-line explanation in two columns, in Latin.
