Stadtholdership until 1802

Overview of all stadtholders in the Netherlands, from William I to William V. The stadtholders are arranged in chronological order on the steps of a large staircase in a palace. At the top William I, who is being murdered by Balthasar Gerards. Then Maurice, Frederick Henry, William II with Andries and Cornelis Bicker as representatives of Amsterdam, William III and William IV. After William IV follow the regents of William V: Anna and Louis Ernest. At the bottom, William V finally steps off the staircase of the stadtholders onto a stone marked Oranienstein, referring to Oranienstein Palace in Germany to which William departed, after recognizing the Batavian Republic as part of the provisions of the Peace of Amiens, on March 27, 1802.
