About this work

At the harbor of Focchies in Turkey the Venetian fleet under command of Giacomo Riva defeats the Ottoman fleet on May 12, 1649. The entire bay is taken over by warships, which are engaged in firefights. In the foreground several ships are sinking. Top right a medallion with the portrait of the Turkish commander, top left a medallion with the portrait of Giacomo Riva, commander of the Venetians, with border inscriptions in Dutch.
