About this work
The god Mercury as personification of the planet Mercury with various attributes. He blows on a trumpet and holds a winged staff with two snakes (caduceus). On his head he wears a winged helmet and behind him stands a rooster. The constellations Virgo and Gemini, at his feet to the right, are the planetary children. He stands on a pedestal in an architectural frame decorated with ornaments. In the frieze at the bottom, a star is depicted in a medallion, flanked by playing putti. The print is printed with multiple woodblocks.
