About this work
Three flute players on horseback walk in a row; they form part of the triumphal procession of Emperor Maximilian I. They follow a standard-bearer on horseback who carries a long staff with a blank cartouche, intended for text. The man carries a quiver with his flute over his shoulder. Above his head a blank text band is depicted.
