About this work
Allegorical representation of the Dutch Garden in which William III declares his love to the Dutch Maiden, 1672. From the Orange tree flows an army of locusts; on the right armed citizens flee, leaving behind large bags filled with money. In the sky various allegorical figures fly. On the right a rooster sits on a stick. Below the representation stands a Dutch verse in two columns above the indication 'Het Haen-gekray'. The verse is a dialogue between Jan Provoost (or Proost) and Jan Ariaens. This print shows the continuation of the events as depicted in FMH nos. 2309 and 2310.
