Allegory on the precarious position of the Netherlands at the beginning of the year 1672. In a partially destroyed Dutch Garden, the Dutch Maiden tries to keep the pole with the liberty cap upright. The French and the French Rooster try to pull the pole down. In the background, Dutch troops watch helplessly. The armed Dutch Lion is bound to a pillar of Janus and cannot intervene.
