About this work

A chariot with the State as Protector of Tyranny, accompanied by Freedom of Conscience, runs over Tyranny. The chariot is drawn by the personifications of Constancy, Love, Unity, Justice, and Fidelity. The scene is surrounded by the coats of arms of cities in South Holland. After the stained-glass window in the St. John's Church in Gouda (designed 1595–1596, installed 1597).
