About this work

A soldier, full-length, facing right, holding a musket (a specific type of firearm) near his left thigh with his left hand, the barrel pointing diagonally upward. In his left hand, besides the musket, a fork (musket fork). He opens a powder measure that he has brought to his mouth with his right hand, ca. 1645. Printed on the reverse with text in French. New composition not derived from the instructions for handling the musket in the Wapenhandelinghe by J. de Gheyn. Military affairs around 1600.
