About this work
Satirical print on the division of the Austrian lands by Cardinal Fleury, 1742. The Austrian Archduchess Maria Theresia stands completely naked, the robbers walk away with her clothing (Bohemia, Moravia, Silesia, Milan and Parma), the cardinal tries to pull away the hand with which she tries to cover her shame (the Low Countries = Austrian Netherlands). In the caption the cardinal declares that he would like to take the Low Countries himself, even if it is a meager reward. Allegory on the War of the Austrian Succession. On the sheet below the print an explanation of the scene in numbered verses 1-13.
