About this work

Allegorical representation in which the kneeling Dutch Maiden receives the spear with the liberty cap from Minerva. To the left, a bust of King William I standing on a pillar. To the left in the background, portraits of earlier Princes of Orange. To the right in the foreground, the Dutch Lion tramples the French eagle. On the occasion of the inauguration of William I in Brussels in 1815.
