About this work
King Saul jumps up in fright from his throne at the appearance of the personification of Justice. He is struck by a lightning bolt that Justice, together with a putto, shoots at him. To the right of the throne sits a blindfolded man with a dagger, symbolizing spiritual or moral blindness, and Minerva holding a wild boar, symbol of lust and gluttony. To the right in front of the throne sits a woman with a pelican on her lap, symbol of Christ's self-sacrifice on the cross. To the left, a veiled woman points to the startled Saul, with the All-Seeing Eye above her head.
