Appearance of Justice to King Saul

King Saul jumps up in fright from his throne at the appearance of the personification of Justice. He is struck by a lightning bolt that Justice fires at him together with a putto. To the right of the throne sits a blindfolded man with a dagger, symbol of spiritual or moral blindness, and Minerva holding a wild boar, symbol of lust and greed. To the right in front of the throne sits a woman with a pelican on her lap, symbol of Christ's self-sacrifice on the cross. To the left, a veiled woman points with the All-Seeing Eye above her head at the startled Saul. The print is part of a series on the story of David and Saul.
