Cabinet des Modes or the New Fashions, 1 August 1786, pl. II

Man in deep mourning. According to the accompanying text, he wears a habit of wool, without buttons on the lapels and pockets, (mourning costume for summer) with six buttons on the front panels. At his left side a sword, decorated with black crêpe. Shoes of castor. The buckles on the garters and shoes are of bronze. A long cravat falls over the jabot of the shirt. Cuffs and jabot are of batiste. Under the arm a large hat, garnished with black crêpe. The print is part of the 18th Cahier from Cabinet des Modes ou les Modes Nouvelles. The series consists of 72 fashion prints, published by Buisson, Paris, 15 November 1785 – 1 November 1786.
