Linen damask napkin commemorating the relief of Grave by Stadtholder William III. Central panel: The symmetrical pattern shows the following scenes from bottom to top: 1 The fortress of Grave on a river. Inscriptions: DE MAES, D'GRAEF and DE BORGHERS VAN GRAEF DANCKEN SYN HOOGHEYT VAN HUN VERLOSSINGHE. 2 Three citizens with hats in hand and two kneeling, dressed in justaucorps, breeches, cape, and flat wigs. 3 Castle, with a rearing, looking-back horse on either side, upon which a rider is mounted, dressed in a justaucorps with wide cuffs, sash, long wig, feathered broad-brimmed hat, and carrying a marshal's baton. Above his head an angel with a laurel wreath and trumpet. 4 Crowned coat of arms of William III, surrounded by the motto of the Order of the Garter HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE. In the center the year 1674 and LANGE LEEFT ONSEN VICTORIUESEN PRINCE VAN ORANGE.
