About this work

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace, Binche lace. The repeating pattern consists of a tangle of small motifs made with different decorative grounds, including eyelet bar trellis ground and netting fillings. The outlines of these are partially emphasized with narrow decorative bands, made in shaped stitch. At regular intervals, the decorative bands form figures resembling people. The motifs are connected by an irregular decorative ground, a snowflake ground. The top and bottom of the strip are finished straight, with the bottom provided with picots.
