Strip of bobbin lace with an endlessly winding ribbon

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace, Milanese lace. The strip is made or used for attaching to a superplie. The pattern is formed by an infinitely swirling ribbon. A repetition of the pattern is visible where the ribbon curls only along the top edge, so that the mesh ground underneath is not cut through by the ribbon. This creates rectangular blocks, full of branches with cut leaves and flower buds. The curls are held together by a diamond-shaped mesh ground. The ribbon is made in linen stitch with openwork edges; sporadically there are also cutouts in the center of the ribbon. In some leaves and flowers a decorative ground in shape stitch is made or some picoted braids are applied. The top side is finished with a separately bobbin-edged edge. The irregular shells along the underside result from the pattern with the swirling ribbon.
