Strip of bobbin lace with lotus flower

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: Mechelen lace. The repeating pattern consists of a lotus flower with a lush volute leaf, originating at the top of the strip from a more or less diamond-shaped motif. The volute leaf hangs down to the bottom edge, while the flower curves upwards. The motifs are worked in linen stitch and net stitch with thicker and shiny contour threads. The motifs are connected by a lattice ground, a five-hole ground. A snowflake ground is used as a decorative ground. The slightly scalloped bottom edge results from the pattern and is finished with picots. The top edge is straight finished.
