Strip of bobbin lace with a cartouche from which a daisy springs, forming a shell along the lower edge

Strip of natural-coloured bobbin lace, Binche lace. The repeating pattern consists of a cartouche along the top edge, with broad volute leaves extending to the left and right. From one of the volute leaves a flower stem springs, which bends to the underside and with a large daisy forms one of the shells. Between the successive daisies the other shells are formed by an elongated volute, flanked on the left and right by a more or less pointed oval cartouche. The motifs are connected by a decorative ground, a snowflake ground. The work is mainly made in linen stitch with openwork edges and partly in net stitch. Decorative grounds are applied in the cartouches and in flower hearts, among others. Top and bottom are finished straight, with the underside provided with picots. The strip consists of two equal parts, which are joined in the middle with a seam.
