Strip of bobbin lace with decorative bands and hanging carnation

Strip of natural-coloured bobbin lace, Binche lace. The repeating pattern consists of decorative bands creating two different lobed fields. In one field hangs a loose curved branch, with a large hanging carnation, two upward-pointing rosette flowers and a bunch of five berries. In the other field hangs from a halved fan-shaped flower along the top edge a cup flower downwards on a curved stem. The motifs are connected by a lattice ground, a five-hole ground. The motifs are made in linen stitch with cutouts and openwork edges. In the decorative bands two different decorative grounds are applied, with rosette motifs and circular motifs, whether or not in a checkered pattern. The top side of the strip is finished with a separately bobbin-edged band, with coarser threads. The very faintly scalloped underside is messy and seems not to be part of the original pattern; the thread with picots attached deviates strongly from the threads of the bobbin work.
