About this work

Play purse of orange velvet, embroidered in gold- and silver-thread and multicoloured silk with an unidentified alliance coat of arms. Model: flat round base with a wavy raised edge around it provided with holes through which a cord of braided red silk - ending in a tassel of metal thread - is drawn. Lined with goat leather over which green silk. Decoration: the 20 protrusions or 'ribs' are decorated with alternating, stacked ornaments in relief of silver-thread with leaves of metal and coloured foil. At three-quarter height runs a horizontal line of silver-thread. Along the top the whole was edged with a twisted cord of silver-thread and a silver passementerie; of the latter only fragments remain. The base is partially covered with gold brocade - in the form of a lambrequin, upon which in relief two oval shields of an alliance coat of arms.
