Handkerchief of batiste with an inserted corner piece of bobbin lace

Handkerchief of natural-colored batiste with an inserted corner of bobbin lace: fine Bruges floral work. The symmetrical pattern consists of a diagonally placed heart-shaped motif, formed by a heart-shaped flower from which two curling branches spring, each with a rosette flower at the curling end. On either side of the curling branches fan out a small flower and some berries, a piece along the sides of the handkerchief. The motifs are largely made in linen stitch with openwork edges, shiny contour threads and relief contours worked in various places, so-called ribs. In flower hearts and berries blocks are made in form stitch. The motifs are connected by a lattice ground, an eyelet lattice. The sides of the batiste are finished with a hem along which runs a narrow border of open needlework - work with drawn threads.
