About this work

Handkerchief of natural-colored batiste finished around with natural-colored bobbin lace: fine Bruges flower work. Symmetrical pattern with in each corner a pinecone-shaped cartouche with in it a rosette flower on a long straight stem with two pairs of oval flower petals. Along each side four interconnected C-scrolls with a zigzag line in it. In the middle of each side the contact point of two C-scrolls is crowned by a flower with three oval flower petals. The flower is flanked by two round flowers with many openwork flower petals, arches, around. Seven of these round flowers with arch petals form the scallop border around each corner around the cartouches. The motifs are made in linen stitch with openwork borders and are provided with thick contour lines. The veins of leaves are made with cutouts in which overlapping pairs are visible. The scallop border is finished with picots.
