Handkerchief of white batiste with a border of Honiton lace

Handkerchief of natural-colored batiste with a border of natural-colored bobbin lace: Honiton lace. The inner piece of batiste has four lobes. The symmetrical pattern of the lace consists in the corners of two diagonally placed roses between leaves. The shell edge consists alternately of a five-lobed flower and an oval with filling pattern. Above each middle oval (halfway along each side) stands a similar oval flower, with an asymmetrical extra petal border. The inner edge, where the lace is sewn to the batiste, consists of a decorative border of linked lying ovals upon which half-oval 'gateways', with in each a cross made in filling stitch. The motifs are made in net stitch and linen stitch with openwork edges. They are provided with outline threads and in a single leaf the leaf veins are accentuated with cutwork relief contours. Filling stitches are applied in petals and to realize the decorative grounds in the oval (flowers).
