Shawl of Bobbin Lace with Insertions of Machine-Made Lace Forming a Cross-Intersecting Circle in the Center

Doily of natural-colored bobbin lace - Lille lace - with inserts of machine-made Valenciennes lace. Round model built up from a round center of tulle with puffs, which is cut crosswise and bordered with inserts of machine-made Valenciennes lace. To this circle edge of machine lace is sewn with fine ruffles a wide border of bobbin lace - Lille lace - The pattern of this strip consists of a wide band with square puffs made in form stitch, with below it a repeating pattern of a flower branch with feathered leaves and carnation-like flowers. The motifs in the bobbin lace are made in linen stitch with cut-outs and provided with thicker and shiny contour threads. The motifs are connected to each other by a tulle ground. In some flowers and leaves decorative grounds are applied, including the rose ground. The lower or outer side is straight and finished with picots. The lace is manufactured in the 19th century, the doily is assembled in the first half of the 20th century.
