About this work

Handkerchief of batiste with around a border of natural-coloured mixed lace: bobbin lace in combination with a needle lace ground and needle lace motifs. Square model with rounded corners and a round middle piece of batiste. Pattern with an uninterrupted wavy garland of roses and rosebuds (duchesse bobbin lace with a needle lace ground). Around this runs a wavy ornamental band with diamonds and pearl border (needle lace, Brussels mesh lace). The outer border is largely of needle lace with a pattern of radially scalloped vine leaves, which are half matte, half speckled filled. The matte parts are bobbin lace. The bobbin lace parts are made in linen stitch and provided with relief contours. In the bobbin lace roses very sparingly net stitch is used.
