About this work

Handkerchief of batiste finished around with bobbin lace: fine Bruges flower work. The bobbin lace consists along the edges of the handkerchief of four narrow and faintly wavy lines, which partly overlap. Attached to this is a series of openwork half-ovals, arches, which form the scallop border. In each corner is placed diagonally on two C-scrolls one large rosette flower, with an openwork round flower heart with a star in it. The motifs are made in linen stitch with openwork borders and thick contour lines. The veins of the petals are represented with cutouts. The scallop border is finished with picots.
