About this work
Handkerchief of batiste with a wide border of bobbin lace: Eastern European lace. Square model with scalloped border. Winding ribbons form the same symmetrical pattern along each side. The pattern consists of volutes, snail shells and loops. The ribbons are made in openwork linen stitch with contour threads along both sides. The ribbons are separated from each other by short overlapping pairs. The scalloped border comes from the pattern with the winding ribbons. The batiste middle part is possibly not original. It is unfinished with a wide overlapping border at the back sewn onto the bobbin lace border.
