Strip of bobbin lace with interrupted diamond-shaped fields and candelabrum motifs

Strip of natural-coloured bobbin lace, old Binche lace. The repeating and openwork pattern consists of interrupted diamond-shaped fields, formed by four diagonally placed flowers. In the field stands a symmetrical candelabrum motif, with an inverted heart-shaped centre. A smaller candelabrum motif stands on the midline between the successive diamond-shaped fields in. The motifs are connected by a mesh ground, an eyelet stitch trellis ground. And they are made in linen stitch with openwork edges and in net stitch. Some snowflakes are used as part of the motifs and a ground is among others used in the centres of the candelabrum motifs. The upper and lower side of the strip are finished straight, whereby the lower side is provided with picots. The picot edge seems to be made of a different thread and is possibly attached later. The whole gives the impression that the strip was once wider.
