About this work
Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: old Flemish lace. The repeating pattern consists of a continuous wavy vine. In each wave valley stands a lobed flower and under each wave peak curls an iris-like flower upwards with elongated petals. The motifs are not very clearly defined. They are connected by an irregular mesh ground and a decorative ground, a combination of the Paris stitch and a snowflake ground like in Binche lace. The motifs are made in linen stitch with openwork edges. The top and bottom are finished straight, with the bottom edge provided with picots.
